Ms Chyina Peterson

Chyina Peterson is a plus size model from Kalamazoo Michigan.  Yes, people you read it right Kalamazoo Michigan.  But Chyina has been a sweet Georgia Peach since venturing to my beautiful state in 1996 to attend College. Like most people who visit the state of Georgia, she fell in love with our southern charm and made it her home.  

I had the pleasure of interviewing her at the auditions for Confession of PHAT Girl.  Her presence was sweet and serene.  Her smile makes you want to get to know her better.  There is a depth of wisdom behind her smile having faced many obstacles and overcoming them to live a life of triumph. Chyina is more than a pretty face. She is shepreneur, an advocate, a friend and sister.

Chyina credits her mother for her charitable spirit. Her mom would take her and her siblings to volunteer at a local shelter even though they were in need themselves. She didn’t understand her mother’s methods when she was younger but truly appreciate the value her mom instilled in her.

Chyina advocates for many organizations but there is one cause that is near to her heart.  Suicide Awareness is the cause she champions. She is a survivor of a suicide attempt on her life. She uses her platform of modeling to share her story and tell people about the struggles of mental health.

Ms Chyina encourages women to find help outside of friends and family. She encourages joining support groups. She advocates it is good to have un-bias person to speak with about feelings and emotions.  Another great tip she encourages is journaling. 

 Blessed DIVAS is the additional organization which Chyina is very committed.  Every month through this organization, Chyina and group of blessed friends give away hygiene bags to homeless shelters.
