Our WCW this week is Tamela Mann. Before she took us to the king with her amazing vocals, she has been bringing a wide range of emotions with her theatrical, film, and television appearances. She and her husband, David Mann, were first introduced to me through the many Tyler Perry stage plays. These later became launched into film and the duo became household names.
Laughter, Music and the Gospel
Bringing laughter, music, and the gospel to the forefront propelled not only their careers but the multiplicity of their talent. She is an NAACP Image Award nominee and also Dove Award winning vocalist accolades are no surprise for those that have witnessed her epic rise. Serving the Lord in multiple ministries is something that she accredits to her childhood. As the youngest of 14 children growing up in Fort Worth, Texas she recalls, “It was all about faith and all about God in my mom’s house,” according to her profile on the couple’s tillymanmusic website. In the stage play “He said…She said…But What Did God Say?” is where she caught the attention of Mr. Perry, but before that she was part of Kirk Franklin and The Family.
Success and Marriage
Her marriage has been just as successful as her professional career and both began at a tender age. You can now witness the fruits of their marriage in the reality show “Meet the Mann's”. Honest and entertaining, the show exudes what we have seen on stage for years. After 20 years together, the duo help each other excel not just in business, but with every aspect of their lives. When David was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes few years back, Tamela decide to stand by her man and make the necessary changes so that they could both live a healthier lifestyle. Four years later and with David 40 pounds lighter, the couple has joined the Stop Diabetes Movement as celebrity sponsors.
