Blog Tips: Don't Be a Ball Hog
I know it’s been a minute since you have heard from me. I had other business to take care of so I asked my good friend Erika to step in for me. I don’t know about you, but I love her writings. She is encouraging and been a real blessing to the PHATSkinny Chic family. I enjoy her articles and the others articles people have written in the past, I decided that Blog Tip Tuesday would be about sharing the stage.
From the beginning, I knew I didn’t want to be the only writer for PSC. The dream is too big for me to make happen by myself. I enlisted great writers from the beginning to help me. I wasn’t always clear on my requirements and they have changed a lot over time. I’ve learned consistency is the key and giving plenty of information up front helps everyone in the process.
Here are my Tips for working with Guess Contributors.
Choose Good People- when selecting people to write for you, choose people who have a swag that matches the style of your blog. The article should fit in effortlessly with your blog. They shouldn’t sound like a carbon copy of you, but they should at least feel like they are a part of your family.
Expectations- let people know upfront what you expectations are. Do you have a running theme for the month? How long should the article be? When is it due to you? Do you want them to cross promote? Are they allowed to share their article on anyone else’s blog or do you want exclusive content? Do you want them to provide pictures?
Availability- many of my writers have never blogged before. They are testing the waters. I make sure I am available for them to ask any questions. It is my job to bring out their best work. Many of my writers discover they have a knack for writing and go on to pursue other interest in writing.
Don’t Be a Ball Hog- by this I mean don’t be so into yourself to think you are the only star on the team. Give someone else time to shine. If your contributor has written a great article, brag about it. If they have more expertise in an area than you, let them write about it. If people relate to them more than you, it is ok. When they win the blog wins. That is my philosophy. This should challenge you to step up your game. Every person who has written for me, I have learned something from them. I have become a better writer because of it.
Having guest contributors can be a joy to work with because they add value to your blog. Writers bring their unique experience and expertise to the blog and your readers will enjoy the extra flavor you added to the blog.
