Focus on Your Health & Not Your Dress Size
Lane Bryant has a new campaign celebrating women with curves. I am super excited about the campaign. Cacique is the only bras which I have found fit me. I love the wide band width of the back strap. I immediately took a picture with my “good bra” on and posted it to my IG account with the hashtag #IamNoAngel. I don’t know a plus size woman who wasn’t excited about the campaign. It is a great moment of triumph for women he doesn’t have flat abs or skinny thighs. It is great to see models who look like me. Who have the same “flaws” I have. I use the term flaws loosely. I don’t hate my body nor should you. Facebook was buzzing with excitement. One the many workout people I follow posted a question about the campaign. My concern was not with her questions because it is her job to spark conversation on her page. My outrage comes from the comments section.
I am sick and tired of ignorant people assuming because you are FAT that you have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc… I hate even more when these same dumb people think you are lazy and you spend your whole day stuffing your face. Oh! The best one is you hate yourself because you are big. Here’s the middle finger you bishes. Any of the diseases, I just named can affect you whether you are small or big. You can’t determine people’s health by looking at that them. You certainly can’t determine these diseases without doing blood work. There are plenty of smaller people who have been diagnosed with diabetes high cholesterol, high blood pressure. These diseases can affect anyone at any time.
It is important that we push HEALTH and not SIZE. Eating Healthy and Exercising is what matters the most. There are plenty of fat people walking around in skinny bodies. By this I mean, they eat horrible and workout less. They are one burger away from a heart attack. They are taking cholesterol pills and high blood pressure pills, but you can’t tell this by looking at them. People stop being judgmental and ignorant. Slander and bullying don't help anyone lose weight. Cudos to the trainers, doctors, health care workers who understand this concept. Thank God for the people who celebrate with me as I walk this journey. WE have a responsibility to undo the damage that media has done to our society as I said before we should be promoting health and not Size. We are created differently. Our differences are to be celebrating and not trampled upon like trash. I am FAT. I was diagnosed with Diabetes at 26, not due to my Size. It was of genetics. Today, I can proudly say that it runs undetectable in my body. It is not because I am a size 2 but because I put in the work to make sure I am healthy. I focus on my health and not my dress size. Since I focus on health, my dress size has naturally gone down. So the next time you look at fat person think twice before you judge them they just may be healthier than you.
