Ms Dori Carter- Curvy Idol

I had the pleasure of meeting plus size model Dori Carter through my fellow blogger Maui Bigelow of PHAT Girl Fresh.  From our initial meeting, we became instant friends.  Recently, I interviewed Ms Dori at the Confessions of PHAT Girl auditions.  We talked about everything from her salon, her daughters, and  her competing in the Project Curve Appeal's Curvy Idol Competition.

Let’s Meet Ms Dori Carter

A freelance hairstylist and co-owner of Beyond Cuts Hair salon in Alapaha GA, Ms Dori Carter is a mother of two girls whom she draws her strength and peace.  Currently, she is competing in the Curvy Idol a competition hosted by a plus-size community heavy weight Project Curve Appeal.

Modeling…

With one year of modeling under her belt,  Dori is discovering her true passion.  Her passion is to encourage and uplift people.  Her FACEBOOK page Simply Dori is an inspiration to her fans.

“It amazes me that it took 35 years to discover myself.  In the past, I have allowed  myself  to get lost in other people."

She has met many people and enjoyed many new experiences in the past year through modeling.  She confidently boasts about being a plus size model and no longer aspiring to be one.  Through her modeling experiences, she's discovered a greater passion for building young ladies'self-esteem.  She believes it is important to teach her daughters; as well as, others true beauty radiates from the inside out.

Entering the Curvy Idol Competition

She entered the contest because of  her looks and curves, as well as, her personal story.   Her story is about her journey to self-discovery and learning to be true herself.

“Anyone can put on make-up and be glamorous, but who am I when my make-up comes off? As woman, I must be inspiring with or without makeup.”

Her Health…

Recently she adopted a simple approach to getting healthy. Her goal is to conquer one thing at a time.  At the moment, her attention is focused on drinking more water.  By drinking  fewer sodas, it has made a huge difference in her life.

Ms Dori believes a healthy spirit equals a healthy mind and body.  She has a very unique way of staying positive.  Inspired by the lyrics of Lyfe Jennings' song, she cries every night. The lyrics are the following:

"Crying is like taking your soul to the laundry mat.”

She cleanses her soul by taking her anxieties and stresses of the day and washes her soul with her tears. When she has completed this process, she gives thanks to God for her accomplishments.

Words of wisdom from her grandmother…
