Tell me a little about yourself?

HI! My name is SHerita Smedley and I am an English Professor. I have three wonderful kids that keep me on the go. I am also a published author of a historical romance novel called Passion on the Plains.

How long have you been on your Health Journey?

I started my health journey back in 2011 after the birth of my 3rd child. I reached 221 pounds and knew it was time to make a change in my life. I wanted to see my kids grow up and to keep up with the when we played.

Why did you choose Zumba?

I started doing Zumba in 2010 and really became serious about it in 2011. I loved the dancing and the fact that it was easy cardio. I could do a 1hour class and burn about 1000 calories, which was helping me with counting my calories.

What do you like most about Zumba?

I love the motivation that Zumba gives when we are all in a big class jumping around and laughing. The ladies help to keep each other going and to keep the motivation going until the end of class.


Most Calorie burns while doing Zumba? How much weight have you lost doing Zumba?

The most calories I have burned were about 1500 during a zumbathon. I loved the fact that I can burn so many calories in a short amount of time. I have lost about 70 pounds while doing Zumba.


What are some words of encouragement for women wanting to join a Zumba Class?


I would tell any women to just try it. Don’t worry about looking silly or even not knowing how to dance. Get in the class and shake it! Learn to love the body you have and appreciate the journey. I have enjoyed my journey and look forward to much more shaking and toning in my future. Good luck!!
