Fit Friday: Who Says Working Out Has To Be All Work & No Play

Amusement Park Fitness

Who says exercising has to be a dreadful activity? Yes, a walk in the park is relaxing, but sometimes you need a little excitement. How about an adventure in an amusement park? At this age, going to an amusement park like Six Flags or Kings Dominion is all about the kids, spending every dollar in your pocket, and mommy/daddy can I have. We bought gold passes for Six Flags and White Water for family enjoyment, but today it will be a day for daddy and I to be kids.

Benefits

The first health benefit to a theme parks is walking! Oftentimes, we are unable to visit all of the attractions due to the vastness of the theme parks. Obviously the best time to visit these theme parks are in the summer where you can easily work up a sweat. Who likes the heat though right? The good part is that you can usually find finding cooling areas to your breath, cool off in the shade and get mistified with mist. Although they are always trying to sell you $7 Cokes, they will often give you complimentary water (and that is the best way to really hydrate).

Outside of experiencing a great walk, you have plenty of time standing in long, long lines. This is the perfect time to do some stationary activities like walking in place, doing squats, or practicing arm raises. People may look at you strange, but you may get crazy looks just be doing nothing. Go ahead get a good workout!  You are just standing there waiting for someone to move up in the line, so why not get side eye for doing something that is going to benefit you in the long run (you know I am bold. You may want to do it when you think no one is looking, if you are the shy type).

Enjoy Life

If you are anything like me, you LOVE rollercoasters. Better than that, I LOVE the daredevil drops! Usually for those attractions you will have to climb a few flights of stairs to get to the entrance of the ride. The line affords you some breaks and modifies your pace, so that you do not move too fast. I personally enjoy the views going up and the thrill of going down. The best part of this time of year is when kids are in school.  The park isn’t as active. You can go on a date with your significant other rather than making it a family event.  Outside of the exercise, it gives you the opportunity to enjoy a little excitement in your life!
