Police testing the use of Less-Lethal Weapons
Will it help?
In the wake of the Black Lives Matters Movement and the killing of unarmed black men by police, a company out of Fitchburg, Massachusetts has teamed up 20 cities to test a less-lethal weapon for police to use. Micron Products Inc have created a new bullet like product that is larger than a rubber bullet and doesn’t penetrate the skin on contact. The weapon is said to cause excruciating pain and stop suspects in their tracks. They are training officers to aim for the arms and leg with the weapon. Testing had been completed on close range shooting of the abdomen, it said to cause bruising but not serious injuries. They still have not tested the weapons on shooting people in the head which tends to be the place where officers aimed the most. I am glad to see some cities recognize the tragedies of these shootings and are looking for alternative ways to fight crime. My question is Will it help or cause more harm? Is changing the form weapons used to hunt down criminals the best way to improve the community/police officer trust?
